Welcome to
the Cultural Resources Department's page
Enclosed are a few of the things going on for the
Members of the Sauk-Suiattle Indian Tribe.
We will be working on doing a Calendar shortly.
Please contact Dora Dailey with your input and needs
regarding Cultural Events.
Please offer us days of the month and week for
Cultural Activities that will work to ensure your attendance. We
are
working on weekly Cultural Activity Night now, but need your input for
Saturday Cultural Activity Days. Maybe one or two Saturdays a month.
We
will be working on an annual calendar for Cultural Events, such as;
Gathering trips for
Cedar Bark,
Various Berries,
Bear Grass,
Roots,
Tubers,
Cattails,
Tules,
Teas, etc.
Events like
Tribal Journeys,
SSIT Powwow,
The Big Walk,
Attending Elders Day’s
with other Tribes, Etc.
We are hoping to make opportunities for the
Membership to learn, teach, share and know one another in regard to our
culture.
SSIT is working with Astrida Onat to develop the historical ground work
on establishing some our treaty rights. She has been touch with the
Brown Family and set a date to interview and collect data Saturday
October 22, 2011 at the SSIT Community Building.
And
tentatively she would like to meet with the Enick Family on Sunday,
October 23 at the SSIT Community Building.
Astrida is hoping to meet with the Price Family sometime in November
before Thanksgiving. Please contact me regarding potential times and
places so that we can facilitate your meeting.
She
also would like to set up a date with our Moses family in this same time
frame. Please speak with other family to develop a potential date as
well and I will also support your meeting.
A
number of our people will need to attend more than one of these family
meetings according to our ancestry.
Your input is important no matter how fragmented or small the detail.
Your attendance is important not only for sharing information but to
hear the stories and experiences of our families.
Last month SSIT Council appointed Dora Dailey the Interim LongHouse Committee Chairman to establish an appropriate Committee in
accordance to the LongHouse Code and the practices of our tribal
ancestry and families. I would like to encourage any tribal member to
attend. Especially, those wanting to serve on the LongHouse Committee.
