Elder Food Program Provides Nutritious Meals and Community Connection
The Sauk-Suiattle Elder Food Program continues to provide nutritious meals and vital social connections for tribal elders, supporting health and wellbeing throughout the community.
The program delivers hot, balanced meals five days per week to eligible elders aged 60 and over. Meals are prepared with fresh ingredients and accommodate dietary restrictions and cultural food preferences.
Beyond nutrition, the program creates opportunities for elders to gather, share stories, and maintain social connections. Weekly community lunches at the tribal center have become cherished occasions for fellowship and intergenerational engagement.
"This program does so much more than provide food," said Program Coordinator Betty White. "It helps our elders stay healthy, connected, and active in community life."
The program also offers home delivery for elders with mobility challenges. Volunteers deliver meals and provide friendly visits, helping reduce isolation and ensure wellbeing.
Tribal members interested in the program for themselves or family members can contact the Elder Services office for enrollment information and eligibility requirements.
